How French payroll deductions work
Gross salary is the contract amount before deductions. French employee contributions (health, pension, CSG/CRDS, unemployment) average 22% for non-executives and about 25% for executives. Public sector employees pay around 15%, self-employed up to 45%.
Since 2019, income tax is withheld at source on top of social contributions, producing the final “net after tax”.
